HEALTHY TIPS FROM TAIWAN

In the China Medical Hospital of Taiwan, where I”m doing my clinical observations, while people wait to be attended by the doctor, they can read this bulletin boards which gives them healthy tips. For example:

HEALTHY TIPS FOR HYPERTENSION WITH FOOD CURES:

– DIET RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Avoid fatty oils, they raise cholesterol, generate heat and produce phlegm, ex: animal organs, fish eyes, shrimp eyes, cheese and butter.
2. Diet low in salt, some foods like smoked fish and food soaked in soy sauce have a high salt content, so better have a low intake of this foods.
3. Choose vegetable oil like Olive Oil.
4. When cooking use rice vinegar, lemon, apple, pineapple as flavouring instead of salt.

– FOOD CURES
1. Black Fungus Congee:
preparation: use 5 gr dried Black Fungus, soak to open up, wash it, mince it, put it in pot, use 100 gr rice, 5 dates, cook until black fungus is soggy.
indications: dizziness, blurry eyes, tinnitus, poor memory, lower back and knee weakness, low spirit.
functions: Black Fungus: nourishes Yin, activates blood.
Red Dates: tonify spleen, nourishes blood.
Rice: tonify spleen
– precautions: careful with people with poor digestion and easy bloating.

2. Rose and Chrysanthemum Tea:
preparation: 5-6 Rose buds, 10 Chrysanthemum flowers, Gou Qi Zi, put together, boil to hot water for 10 min, add small amount of crystal sugar.
indications: headaches, dizziness, fullness of head, irritability, anger, dry mouth, constipation.

HEALTHY TIPS FOR NEARSIGHTEDNESS:

TUINA
– massage and press with with middle finger medial end of eyebrow at the supraorbital notch (BL2), with index finger massage the mid point of the eyebrows depression directly above pupil (Yu Yao), with thumb massage and press temples (Tai Yang)
– massage and press with index finger the point directly below the pupil of the eye, between the eyeball and the infraorbital ridge (ST 1)

HERBS
1. American Gingseng & Gou Qi Zi Tea
preparation: 10 gr of each herb, boil to hot.
functions: Tonify Kidney & Liver, Tonify Qi & Blood.

2. Huang Qi (Astragalus Root) & Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum) Tea
preparation: Huang Qi 15 gr
Ju Hua 3 gr
boil to hot
functions: clear heat, nourish eyes, tonify spleen

Of course… the best thing to do if you have any of this problems is to consult your medical physician and to book an appointment with your nearest Chinese Medicine Practitioner. But in the mean time you can try out this yummy teas, massage and congee.
